Trekking Poles and Crampons: Essential Gear for Winter and Mountain Adventures

As outdoor activities extend into colder seasons and more challenging terrain, trekking poles and crampons have become year-round essentials. Here’s what importers need to know.

Trekking Poles: Key Features

Shaft Material: Aluminum (6061/7075) is durable and affordable. Carbon fiber is lighter and absorbs vibration but costs 2-3x more. Our factory produces both.

Locking Mechanisms: Twist-lock (internal cam) is simple and lightweight. Flip-lock (external clamp) is easier to adjust and more reliable in cold conditions. Flick-lock is premium and fast-adjusting.

Handle Types: Cork handles absorb sweat and are comfortable for long hikes. EVA foam is lightweight and affordable. Rubber offers good grip in wet conditions.

Sections: 2-section poles are lighter and stronger. 3-section poles pack smaller. 4-section poles fit in carry-on luggage.

Crampons: Types and Selection

Walking Crampons (10-point): Lightweight for hiking on icy trails. Flexible binding fits most boots.

Mountaineering Crampons (12-point): More aggressive points for steep ice and mixed terrain. Rigid or semi-rigid frame.

Microspikes / Ice Grippers: Rubber-harness design with spikes for casual winter walking. Very popular in retail.

Export Tips

European markets (especially Germany, Austria, Switzerland) have the highest demand for technical trekking poles. Nordic countries prioritize winter walking gear. North America shows growing demand for lightweight carbon poles.
